My Story

When Lissa was found as a stray with large scabs on top of her head and around her neck and with one eye closed, no one was certain what had caused her injuries. She was very thin and listless and slept most of the time. Her estimated age was 10 to 12 months. A potentially beautiful Maine Coon Cat mix, she was a pathetic little creature, not feral but not playful or lively. To make a longish story short, after her foster treated her with various medications per the vet's orders, she got much better but it turned out that the wounds and subsequent scabs were self created when she scratched herself! Although the original lesions healed, she'd get a few new ones going. The vet decide to try a special diet since her problems could have resulted from food allergies. After close to two weeks on a prescription diet of venison kibble and moist food, the mystery seems to be solved. She is no longer scratching at all and her last two little patches are healed and the fur is almost all back. She has gained a lot of weight and has filled out beautifully. She is in perfect health; however she will have to stay on one of many available prescription diets for both kibble and moist foods and venison is working well for her. No fish mixes. She is quite a little girl and is full of mischief and playful spirits. We love her dearly. As she has healed and gotten past her allergies she has become increasingly loving and affectionate and adores cuddling and playing little games. Lissa is a sweetheart. Hard to say about other pets. She has tolerated a small calm dog in our house briefly and I suspect she'd get along with other cats unless they were too aggressive and unfriendly.
