My Story

Oh, K.C.. You can take the cat out of the streets, but you can’t take the street out of the cat, and for this ‘former’ street cat nothing could be more true. K.C. (standing for Kitty Cat), first came to us in early Summer 2023 after a nearby neighbor kept noticing his scrawny little face emerging from the woods trying to come and gobble her cat’s food that had been left unattended outside- while in the process starting a row with her cat nearly every time. And honestly, not much has changed for this rough and tumble guy, aside from him gaining some much needed weight and growing back much of the fur he was missing. K.C. is still a formidable foe should you come between him and his ‘outside time’ as we call it- and should you attempt to deny him of such you’ll find he makes his displeasure known by instigating brawls with fellow feline residents left and right. Though he is closely monitored, K.C. never wanders far- usually sticking to the bushes and little hedgerow just feet from the shelter, and he always comes straight to the front door when he’s ready to come back inside (especially if the weather is less than ideal). As long as he has this time, K.C. can be affectionate, attention-seeking, and even snuggly with shelter mates of the human variety- and is tolerant of shelter mates of the canine and feline variety, though he prefers very much to keep to himself when it comes to other animals. Aside from the outdoors, K.C. loves canned cat food, catnip, and curling up on your lap or an opportune sunspot . He can be pretty chill and go-with-the-flow, so long as all outdoor and mealtime needs are met- he’ll even go so far as to bring you a dead squirrel if you’re lucky enough! K.C. is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines! While we aren’t sure exactly why (we think it may have been most pronounced when Winter was at its peak preventing him from going outside as much as he likes), K.C. sometimes can get a little anxious and overgroom the fur on his lower back?! However, having a calming collar on him essentially eliminates this issue (along with guaranteeing his outside time).
