Per volunteer 7/1: Kat is a cat (wow) who spends much of her time in the back of her cage, but she will warm up to a hand or face very quickly when it is presented to her. As long as you are gentle, she will return the favor, and she becomes very happy very quickly once she gets to know you. She was laying down on my arm after under ten minutes of pets, even when she seemed afraid only minutes before. During an exam on 5/24, staff observed the following of Kat: Eating voraciously at time of intake, Initially quieter but much brighter when handled, Patient is presenting as an owner-requested-euthanasia for a history of lethargy and anorexia (date of onset 5/15). On initial presentation, and today's exam, patient readily ate food when offered (appears to prefer kitten food) and was curious and affectionate, and bright and alert. Senior bloodwork shows a normal glucose, renal values, and T4. GGT is elevated, indicating potential liver disease (inflammatory v. neoplasia). Continued monitoring of appetite and overall health recommended. Per staff on 5/23, Kat's owners indicated that since the 15th, "her behavior changes and she would lay in same spot in the house. started checking her food bowl, hasnt been eating or drinking anything. she is skin and bones, very thin. a lot of weight loss, really noticed it on saturday. shedding a lot. says she used to be best friends with a dog she had but ever since the dog passed, the cat has slowly been declining.
