My Story

6 year old Journey is such a needy boy! He’s been with us about a year, and had a hard time adjusting to “shelter life”. He has fear of abandonment, and was very confused and scared when he got here, and as such: was lovey but then would “worry” he was going to be left and would aggressively grab and hold onto legs. To the point where we had to help calm him down. He’s on some anti anxiety meds now, that we would want a new owner to continue until it was felt he was feeling safe and secure. He should be in a home with adults used to having a cat, and know signs to look for to trigger any anxiety. He really is a loving boy though, very sweet and just wants to feel Loved and secure. He can’t tell us why he has so much fear of being left and abandoned, but we can imagine he probably had a great life until everything suddenly changed and his life was turned upside down. . So, he’s going to need a very patient owner to help bring out that sweet boy we first met. He doesn’t understand why he is in a cage now. He may do best as an only pet and without small children, even though he has been around other cats at the shelter and had been fine, but we always recommend a slow and patient introduction. His sponsor at the shelter has paid his adoption fee for the right owner and home to take and care for Journey. This love bug deserves a wonderful forever home to call his own. Won’t you come meet this very special boy!! For more information, you can call the shelter at 401-294-1115. You can also go to our web site and fill out an online application at thepetrefuge.org. And then email it to us at [email protected]. Currently, visits to the shelter are by appointment only, for approved adoption applicants, . Or, if you prefer, you can print it out on paper, fill it out, and drop it off. The manager will be in touch with you about an appointment for a visit.
