My Story

Hughie is a handsome 2-month old male kitten who was brought to the HSOV on May 7, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Lee Street in Belpre Ohio. Hughie was accompanied by his two brothers (Billy Butcher and Frenchie) and his little sister (Kimiko). Hughie has a black short smooth coat with a small patch of white on his lower chest/belly, a long tail, and an adorable (rather mischievous-looking) kitten face with golden eyes, a black velvet nose, and long black whiskers. Hughie and his siblings were understandably a bit frightened when they first came to our shelter and huddled together to comfort each other. But they soon realized they were in a good place with kind kennel techs who already loved them, and they quickly became playful happy youngsters. Hughie was given vaccinations and Pyrantel wormer on May 8, 2024. He weighed 1.5 lbs that day. Hughie was given booster vaccines on May 25, 2024. Sadly, his little brother Billy Butcher did not survive and passed away on June 16th. Hughie, Frenchie and Kimiko remained together and were 'The Three Musketeers". Hughie was taken to a veterinarian clinic on June 25, 2024 to be neutered but, unfortunately, he had a URI (kitty cold) that day and was unable to undergo surgery. He weighed 3.15 lbs that day. Hughie will tentatively be neutered in August 2024. These photos were taken on July 5, 2024 shortly before Hughie, Frenchie and Kimiko made their first public debuts (smile). They had become 'social butterflies' and were chosen to participate in the First Friday event in downtown Marietta Ohio on July 5, 2024. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Wendy Irvin who accompanied them that evening. Wendy was like a proud parent as she watched these three little ones. Hughie, Frenchie and Kimiko were wonderful goodwill ambassadors who loved attention from everyone (including children), and they were ok with several HSOV dogs who also shared the limelight. Frenchie was adopted on July 9, 2024. Hughie and Kimiko have remained together and would love to find a home as a bonded pair.
