My Story
Are you in need of a neck warmer that purrs, meows and offers lots of love? Then purrlease meet Heaven. This darling sweet girl has had a tough run and we are grateful for all the care our fab vets at VCA Bering Sea provided and continue to provide for her. When Heaven came to us from AACC she was showing signs of illness, pain and was very fearful. She was very thin and was showing pain in her hip area. Soon after coming to us her left eye began to have major issues. She went to the vet for two weeks where she was receiving round the clock treatment to prevent her from losing one of her gorgeous eyes. She went to see the eye specialist and her left eye did perforate, but it has started to self heal - part of the colored portion of the eye blocked the hole and some blood vessels have started to form in and help regrow a scar as the hole covering. She will have a small white scar eventually and the eye may be slightly misshapen even after healing is complete. She is still able to see in that eye, and as long as it doesn’t cause her pain, Dr. Synder said there is no reason to remove it. As for the cause of the initial ulcer, he could not say for certain - it could have been a small scratch that got infected, or it could have been due to an eye infection.
The retina in her right eye also has some mild changes - possibly due to poor diet at some point. On a good diet there should not be any further changes, but if the white portion of her eye ever turns red, he recommends getting it rechecked.
Our regular vet also did a battery of tests as her lab work came back with numbers the vet had some concerns about, but nothing was ever definitive. The vet rechecked her and her labs improved so they moved forward with spaying her. Sweet Heaven was so patient as she had to wait to finish her recovery before she could begin her transition out.
She will occasionally have some vomit (we have discussed this with the vet as well) and anyone who is interested in adopting her, we would encourage you to discuss her lab results with the vet.
Despite all she has been through, this sweetpea is delightful, loving, affectionate and her meow is as purrecious as can be. Heaven is a back surfer, neck warmer extraordinaire, and such a love muffin. She was an owner surrender at AACC, however we did not get any history. She has been introduced to one friendly cat so far and she makes it clear that is the one in charge. Calicotude with a dash of spiciness and love.

Our adoption policies and procedures are rigorous and thoughtful as our goal is to match you with a cat who will become a loving addition to your home for the rest of his/her wonderful life.
Seeing photos and videos are great first steps, however, meeting the cat in person and seeing if you connect is critically important. You may even want to visit the cat a few times to ensure you have made that connection.
If you are interested in adopting one of our cats, you will need to complete our adoption application and have that approved prior to placement. Submitting an adoption application does not guarantee placement.
We do not do same day adoptions.
Please ensure you have permission to have a cat where you live before considering adoption! We will need to see a copy of your lease agreement along with a contact number for your landlord to ensure the adoption is allowed.
All parties interested must meet the cat before adoption to ensure that everyone is in agreement with the adoption. If you do not live in Anchorage, you must come in to meet her before the adoption and make arrangements to transport her to your home.
AHS will provide behavioral support for the transition and throughout the adoption to ensure that everyone feels secure with the adoption.
Our adoption agreement prohibits declawing an adopted cat, and stipulates that the cat will be returned to us if the adoption does not work out. We also ask that cats be returned to us regardless of when the cat was adopted if the adoptive home is no longer able to keep the cat or is unable to provide him/her with the necessary healthcare to maintain a healthy and happy life.
AHS has an indoor cat policy. We strongly support the utilization of cat harnesses and catios as these are positive ways of giving your cat the chance to explore, get some fresh air and provide him/her with the benefits of the natural world while keeping them and wildlife safe and sound.
