My Story
*Gaia found her forever home on Valentine's Day Feb 14/10. A real love story for this little girl. We wish Gaia and her new family a long and happy life together.
Gaia's new caregiver sent us this update on Mar 1/10. "She's adjusted extremely well and seems very happy with me. I'm certainly very happy with her! I feel I've really lucked out in ending up with such a happy, affectionate, well-behaved kitty. I just hope there will be no hard feelings after she's spayed!"

Here is Gaia's story.
Gaïa was found by her foster family's children. They brought her home for the first time in early August, 2009. The foster family at first told the children to bring Gaïa back to where they found her, her family must be looking for her. So they did.
The children brought Gaïa back about a week and a half later. They said she had been out the whole time and looked realy hungry. As Gaïa kept following the children, the foster family adult said to bring her in so they could look for her family. Gaïa was very hungry and very thirsty. She looked grateful to have humans to take care of her. The foster family started looking for for Gaïa's family. They did all the things needed to locate the family, investigated the neighborhood. They found out that Gaïa's original family had thrown her out because she urinated all over the house. They had continued to feed her outside, but one day they moved away and left her behind, without leaving a forwarding address. This wonderful little girl was on her own. That's when she came to be found by her foster family's children. Gaïa has never urinated outside the litter box in her foster family's home. She does not have a chip, and no one ever came forward to claim her from the various ads and reports.
A week after she was in their home, Gaïa's foster family noticed she was pregnant. From the signs, they figured her babies would be born towards the end of October. What a surprise when the babies were born on October 11th! Gaïa had five babies, one was stillborn. The babies were very tiny and very likely premature by at least a week. By the second day, the foster family noticed the babies were not doing very well, and some babies where not feeding, they tried to feed them manually. The third day, the first baby died and Gaïa had a high fever and showed signs of extreme pain to her stomach section. It was determined that she had mastitis and was not lactating. The foster family did everything they could to feed the babies until Gaïa could feed them but without colostrum from their mother, being premature without antibodies, they all became fatally sick and passed away within two days.
What kind of cat is Gaïa?
Gaïa is a talkative, intelligent, funny affectionate cat. She enjoys having conversations with her people friends. When you get home from work, she greets you at the door, ready to ask you about your day. She will listen you you and make comments when appropriate. She likes to have her can of wet food at supper and will let you know if you forget or are a little late giving it to her. She is not afraid to show you how she feels about you or to show her contentment through loud and prolonged purring sessions.
Having been outside, Gaïa still enjoys going outside. She handles wearing a harness and leash just to get the opportunity to take a walk outside and lay in the grass.
You want to make Gaïa happy, you have a few choices. You can let her cuddle with you when you sleep, you can rub her belly or you can give her treats. She prefers the belly rubs to all.
Gaïa is a queen, she will stand her ground and make her place. She will share her bowl of food with other cats she likes but defend it against those who will do her harm. She is not afraid to fight back when attacked, but would not even think of attacking her human friends. She is the most gentle and loving to her humans, especially to children. The looks she gives you are pure love.
