My Story

Happy Summer! Kitten Season is in full swing again and we need to make room to get Moms and kittens (and older kitties too!) so we can get them fixed and find them homes! Please consider adopting- especially some of our older residents! Remember you save TWO cats lives and make countless more cats & kittens lives better by adopting! When you adopt one cat, it makes room to save another! Win! Win! The kitties thank you too! This is Frieda! Frieda is a domestic short haired tortoise shell spayed female, up to date on her shots, around 6 years old and available for adoption to be an indoor ONLY cat from Griffith Animal Control/Treasured Friends Rescue in Highland Northwest Indiana. Hello, I'm Frieda. I've been at the shelter for 5 years ( that's like 1825+ days ) waiting for my home. I know I'm a little shy, but come on! Doesn't anyone want to give a shy Tortie a chance at a forever home? A long time ago, I came into the shelter I. A litter of kittens that were born outside. All my siblings were adopted but since I wasnt as outgoing and shy, I got passed by. I was too scared to take to adoption events, so I was waiting at the shelter for someone to take me home, but no one ever did. Looking back, I wish I had more confidence back then because it's ever harder for me to find a home now. I'm just over 5 years old and I've never had a home! Lately I've been really wanting to get a home because so many kitties from the shelter have gotten their forever homes. I think it's finally my turn! I think I'm really ready! I'm still unsure and shy around new people. I like humans and I'll get close to them and sometimes like some pets (from the volunteers that have been coming to the shelter for awhile) are okay but I want my own person! I do like other kitties too. I'm in a free roaming cat room at the shelter with other kitties and I'm not mean to anyone and like the company of other kitties. I still love to play, get treats and wet food too! I think I need some one on one time with a person to develop a real bond. That's not possible at the shelter, since it's always different people coming and going, but it would be in a real home. I need a person that will give me time to settle in with them and to be patient with me while I got used to my new life. I think if someone wanted to give me a chance, then I would trust them and I could let my guard down and get to be a kitten again! I'm waiting for the right person who can give me that! Could it be you?. I am sweet but I'm a tortie, so I have a little tortitude, but I promise to be a good friend and sweet companion and maybe even your best friend someday! I know I'm not a kitten anymore. I know I'll still be passed over for being shy AND for being older but I'm still hoping someone is willing to give me a chance. I know everyone wants a kitten, I understand, but I still want to be loved and have a real home too! I'm at the shelter now, so please make an appointment to see me! I like kitties, so a home with another kitty (with the proper introduction) would help me feel safe in my new home. I dont know if I would like dogs or kids. I think a quieter home would be best for me. If you have some patience and are looking for a kitty that really needs a home, I hope you'll consider me! I'll always be there for you and will can be friends forever !! Please make an appointment to come and see me at the shelter! Please call 219-922-1766 to meet Frieda! Like Frieda said, she will not be a "normal" kitty as soon as you take her home. She will need time to adjust and probably won't be able to pet her or pick her up for awhile. Please consider this in your decision because it would set her back trusting humans to be returned. She needs someone who will really be there for her. If that is what you are looking for, please fill out an adoption application which can be found online at TreasuredFriendsRescue.org or follow the link from our profile at Petfinder! **************************************** Griffith Animal Control, in partnership with Treasured Friends Animal Rescue believes in giving kitties that others wouldn't normally get a chance at getting a forever home, a chance! Our fosters & volunteers work with shy and/or unsocialized kitties everyday to get them used to being pet and to show them no one will hurt them. However, when they go to a new home, some kitties will require extra time to get used to new surroundings and different people. Please consider giving a kittie who might need a little time to get used to a new home, a chance. This is a serious commitment and it sets the kitties back in their level of trust if they are given up after a few weeks or months. Please, only apply if you are an experienced cat owner and have patience. Thank you!
