My Story

I don't know who is more unhappy; Bonkers, who just lost his home or the 81-year-old woman who had to say "good bye" to her best friend. Young Bonkers was taken in by a senior citizen who felt sorry for the starving "teenage" kitten who had been abandoned in her neighborhood. They became best friends and Bonkers adored her, came when called and followed her everywhere. Sadly, his human "mom" has terminal cancer and can no longer care for him. She took him to the Humane Society in her small town, but they said he would be euthanized. There were too many adult cats in the shelter and he was too shy to "interview" well. So, Bonkers is in a foster home and hoping for a new life and a new family to love him. We want him to have a happy ending for his sake, but also want the woman who loved him to know that he has a home where he will be cared for the rest of his live. Losing him has been very hard on her and she is so afraid that he'll never find a home. We'd love to ease her mind with a photo of Bonkers in a new home. Bonkers is used to being an outdoor cat in a residential neighborhood with low traffic, but has adjusted well to being inside. He desperately wanted to come inside the house, but could not be allowed in due to serious allergies. He'd do great as an indoor / outdoor cat in a safe neighborbood. He has not been around coyotes or fast cars, but does know to avoid cars moving at "residential" speeds. An excellent mouse catcher, he'd be a great working cat. But, he also LOVES to be petted and loved, so we'd prefer a home where he can also be part of the family. Bonkers will need a quiet, adult home. While he was totally loving and outgoing with his human best friend, he is a complete chicken with strangers. He ran away when we came to get him, so she had to put him in the carrier. It will take several weeks of containment in a small bedroom or office to teach him that you are okay. Even then, we believe that he will always be a bed diver when strangers come. New visitors to your home may not believe that you have a cat. Bonkers is currently getting acquainted with Mikey and Mitty and seems to enjoy their companionship. If you want a pair, he'd do great with either. Bonkers is between 2 and 3 years old. No adoption fee if you have adopted a previous cat or dog from a Puget Sound area rescue.
