My Story

FLOSSIE has had quite a hectic life so far. As a stray, FLOSSIE gave birth to six kittens outside, in a junk pile. She and her babies were brought to a shelter foster home where she was a good mom and cared for her babies until they no longer needed her. Once her kittens were weaned, they stayed at the foster home until they were able to be adopted. Now FLOSSIE finds herself in a warm place where she gets plenty to eat, but there are so many people, and strange cats. At a little over 2 years old, little FLOSSIE is scared and lives on the top shelf in her room. But she was not always so scared. She had, at first, allowed volunteers to hold her and pet her. She would start out stiff, but eventually allowed herself to melt a bit and enjoy the pets and even purr a little. But as soon as she was put down, she would head for a high shelf. Still, there was a connection and there was hope that, in the right circumstances, pretty FLOSSIE would be fine. However, something must have happened as she will no longer come down until people have left, and the other cats are quiet. Shelter life can be traumatic for cats and some kitties just never get comfortable with the noise and chaos that can happen. FLOSSIE is traumatised and in spite of our efforts, will probably continue to be so, as long as she is here. FLOSSIE needs to be in a quiet home as the only pet. She is terrified of the cats in her room, she probably would be terrified of dogs, and she probably would not do well with children. FLOSSIE needs someone who will not make demands of her and will be content to allow her to adjust in her own time. FLOSSIE needs to build trust with her new person, and she needs to rebuild confidence in herself. She cannot be forced however! She will need a very patient guardian! With time and love, FLOSSIE should once again enjoy pets and short snuggles. As she gains confidence, she should blossom into the sweetheart we glimpsed when she first came to the shelter. She is beautiful and deserves to be spoiled in a home with someone who will love her forever. Maybe you are that person? And just imagine the joy you will feel the day FLOSSIE comes to you and wants to sit in your lap!
