My Story

Fiona is looking for a very special home—she tested positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV), which affects a cat's immune system and usually causes some sort of cancer within a couple of years. However, she's a happy, playful, otherwise-healthy young cat who would love a forever home for whatever time she has! She does not need any medication or special care, just a lot of love. Fiona had a pretty rough time of it in her previous life. She managed to survive a fire by escaping the house, but then lived on the streets for a couple of months until she was found again. Later, her family decided they didn't want her anymore and were going to put her out on the street until a neighbor intervened. Despite all this, Fiona is an extremely friendly, outgoing and loving kitty. She's estimated to be about 2-3 years old. She is incredibly playful, vocal, and down right adorable! One moment she is a ball of energy, and the next she’s snuggled up on any available blanket, asleep for 3 hours. Fiona loves chasing her own tail, watching the cat channel on YouTube, and will take any opportunity to sit in front of a window. Also, if you’re thinking of getting rid of any Amazon boxes, don’t bother because Fi will play with them for hours! She is very rambunctious, and when she gets the zoomies, she enjoys running around with you at full speed. Fi is also very curious when it comes to high ledges and will definitely try to see if she can jump up to them. This is VERY entertaining, but fair warning, she can be a bit of a klutz! When Fiona does wind down, she loves to snuggle up in bed with you and sleep for hours. She especially loves any opportunity to lie under the sheets or blankets. Other favorites include Panera’s Broccoli and Cheddar soup, McDonald’s French fries, and chicken cat treats. She cannot live with other cats (unless they are also FeLV+) but she reportedly lived with dogs before. (The virus can only be transmitted to other cats, not to dogs or people.) She also reportedly lived with children, although she can be a little bit of a rough player so probably would do best with slightly older kids. Cats with FeLV don't need any special care, just an attentive owner who will take them to the vet if they seem "off." (Because the virus does affect their immune system, they can be more susceptible to kitty colds and that sort of thing.) She is spayed, current on vaccinations and microchipped. Fiona has no idea she's "sick," she just wants love and attention from her people. She is currently being well-loved in a foster home, but would love a true forever home. Most cats with FeLV live a couple of years, although some live longer. So she might be a good fit for someone who doesn't necessarily want to commit to a normal 15-year cat lifespan. I'm happy to provide sources of online information and answer any questions potential adopters have, and I would always take her back into foster if an adopter wasn't able to keep her for any reason. But she's a happy playful kitty who really deserves a home of her own!
