You ask: What on earth is an Elf? An Elf is a new (2004), quite rare hybrid which crosses a Sphynx kitty with an American Curl. The Curl heritage causes the hybrid Elf's ears to flip backwards. Of course it looks adorable with the "hairless" Sphynx body.
Finn and Peach (fuzz) came from a breeder in Southern Ca. They are part of a litter of three all of whom had the illness FIP. All three have been medically treated with the new GS protocol and are recovered and healthy. FIP has a three-month course of treatment and then no further medication is needed. Formerly a dreaded illness, now tens of thousands of cats around the world have been cured of it. Thank goodness.
Finn and Peach are bonded siblings. If you know about the Sphynx breed you know what active play monsters these cats are. Agile, fearless, insatiably curious they get into everything. These two are still kittens but already you can see how smart they are. And demanding. They don't like to be left out of whatever is going on. These are not sleep on the couch Persians.
These two need a family who has lots of time to spend with them- they need a lot of mental stimulation, love and exercise to keep them content. They do not want to be home alone all day while everyone is at work or school. They would be fine with older respectful children but. They will grow to be quite large, 10-15 pounds. I don't know how they would be with dogs.
Elf cats also need the extra care Sphynxes typically need. This includes baths about every other week, cleaning their ears, eyes, and toes. They should be kept inside and can still get sunburned. In winter without much fur, they can become cold, so extra care and maybe sweaters are needed.
Finn and Peach arrived friendly and curious. These kitties are nicely socialized and love humans. Wiggle a feather wand and you have a friend for life. After a few weeks with us we noticed Peach has what is probably a birth defect in her right rear paw-it turns out sideways more than normal. She runs and jumps keeping up with Finn and is utterly unconcerned about it. The breeder said an X-ray taken early showed nothing wrong with the bones. I know sometimes the tendons that run on either side of the foot don't match right. It could be that. Regardless it doesn't hold her back.
We are looking for a home experienced with Sphynxes home for these special kitties. Some family will be so lucky to cuddle with their warm, soft bodies and enjoy their entertaining company.
Finn is neutered, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, and microchipped.
Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home.
NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone's best interests!
Purebreds Plus cat Rescue (purebredsplus.org), serving Northern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, Oregon, and Northern Nevada, is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of purebred cats, kittens and other exceptional felines. We are a 501 (c)3 non-profit rescue group. Most of our beautiful felines come from Northern California Animal Shelters. One of our goals is to keep purebred cats from ever ending up in a shelter. We are happy to help you if you need to rehome your purebred cat. Often, we can offer advice if your cat is having behavioral problems, and you may end up keeping the cat. We do NOT ship cats. We will place cats out of area but you must arrange to come and meet your new friend in person.
