My Story

If interested, please fill out a pre-adoption application on our website; https://www.pause4pawsmn.org/adopt-a-pet Felix is 2 years old and he was hit by a car before her came into our care. He is unable to walk with his back legs and his bladder needs to be expressed three times a day. He is social, outgoing and he loves other cats and dogs. He loves attention from his fosters as well. Felix is part of our group of cats that came from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico that we and our friends in Puerto Vallarta worked tirelessly to save. The COVID-19 pandemic situation has resulted in months of delays, but these sweet souls are finally finding their second chance. Felix is a sweet, confident, social and outgoing cat. He loves dogs and cats and he does well with them. He likes to be near his person/people and he likes to be held. He is loves playing and his disability does not slow him down. If you are wondering why we are saving cats from outside of our community, I would like to use this opportunity to share why we are committed to helping these animals, some details about them, and how you can help support them as they begin their journey to find forever homes in Minnesota. Saving Cats Outside of MN First, you should know that the vast majority of our work takes place in Minnesota and benefits dogs and cats locally. Serving the cats and dogs of this region is our primary mission. That said, we cannot turn our backs when we see animals in need. Due to a personal connection my family and I have to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I have seen firsthand what a difficult life these cats have experienced. The Cuale Island is an area where cats and dogs are abandoned on a daily basis and therefore was the focal point of Gotta Getta Gato back in 2017 and again today. Not only were these animals neglected, but many were terribly abused and tortured as well. Some people in this area view cats as vermin. It is not uncommon for restaurateurs to throw hot oil on them, poison them, or offer rewards for killing cats. Sadly, as you are reading this message, the government is in the process of “beautifying” the Cuale Island and they are taking aggressive measures to rid the area of the cats by tearing down the structures that the cats have used for shelter for years. I would not be shocked if mass poisonings commence again. It has been reported that four dogs have already been poisoned and there is speculation that when the cats are poisoned, they hide and it is harder to find them. Over the years we have met with some of these officials and our pleas to protect the cats and dogs in this area fall on deaf ears. There is no way we can stand idly by while these precious animals endure such torture. As a result, Pause 4 Paws has worked with our friends in Puerto Vallarta and is bringing cats to Minnesota to find new homes and a second chance at life.
