Ashley was born in the summer of 2003. Her home was in Canton, TX when the tornadoes that went through that area in March, 2004 destroyed her home and broke her lower jaw. Tara came from the same home. When the people who rescued Ashley and Tara finally found their owners, they were told that the tornado had destroyed the home and they could not take the cats back. They finally were taken to Tonya. They were hungry and oh-so dirty. Tonya fed and bathed them and brought them to me.
I could not believe how gentle and sweet they were after all they had been through. They just couldn't get enough petting. Ashley seldom came off the bed for the first couple of weeks except to eat and use the litter box. She totally loves being brushed, even on her tummy. I found that if I cut canned food into little wedges and stood it up on a saucer she could eat a lot easier. And did she eat! It was like she couldn't get enough. She began to fill out and her coat got thicker and prettier. Then it was like she doubled in size almost over night... Yes, she was pregnant when she came to me, but so thin we had no idea. She was too far along to get spayed, so we had to let her have the kits.
Talk about a doting mom!! Tiffany had kits that were 2 weeks old, and Ashley got up into the bed with Tiff and her kits and went into labor, actually had the first one (Tamra) right there in their bed! Finally got her back in her bed, but it was a trip to keep her there. Then after she had her 4 babies and decided to stay in her bed, she moved Tiff's 5 babies to her bed. She wanted them ALL! Finally had to move Tiff and her babies to another room and shut the door to get Ashley to leave them in their bed! I thought it was cute and so funny to watch Ashley grabbing Tiff's kits and running down the hall with them, but Tiff wasn't amused! When Cricket and Rene lost their mom Ashley took them right in and raised them as her own. They were 1 wk older than Ashley’s and 1 wk younger than Tiff's. When Tiff got sick, Ashley even nursed her 5.
Tonya was delivering cat food to an elderly lady and found a new wet-from-birth kitten on the steps, no mom in sight. Tonya wrapped it up and drove 30 miles to get it to Ashley... and Ashley cleaned it up and raised it. The other kits in the litter were found and given to different mothers, but this one, Danny, is the only one that lived.
Ashley is a very gentle, very sweet girl who needs a very loving home. My son says she is basically just a big teddy bear of a cat. If you have a lot of love to give and want to get a lot of love in return, please let Ashley become part of your family.
$50 adoption fee covers just the cost of her shots and spaying. Any additional would be greatly appreciated to help with food, litter and vet care. Donations can be made on our home page easily through Pay Pal by just clicking the “Make a Donation” link. Thank you for visiting!
Our adoption contract strictly prohibits declawing of any kittens or cats. It is cruel, can traumatize the pet, and make the pet defenseless if the pet should get outside.
