My Story

**NOTE: All AVA kittens under 12 months of age MUST be adopted in pairs or to a home with another young cat. AVA does not accept applications for single kittens** Emmy Lou, Teddy Bear, Baby Frank and Nosey Parker, along with 8 other cats, were abandoned in rural eastern Ontario. Our sister rescue For Love of Ferals rounded up all 12 and placed them in foster homes to get them ready for a brighter future. Emmy Lou is a sweet calico with a mind of her own and definitive perspective on how she likes her world to be. This pretty girlie is the lone ranger of the crew; although she appears to enjoy the cuddle puddle for sleeping, she generally likes to keep her distance and do her own thing. She likes chasing toys and climbing the scratch posts, and will occasionally accept brief pets or belly rubs, but has yet to seek affection from humans. Perhaps the busy foster home with multiple animals and children is overly stimulating for Emmy Lou’s comfort, and a quieter environment would help her to come out of her shell and engage. She prefers to lie quietly near her people rather than on them, likely her past experience living outdoors made her extra cautious and wary. Emmy Lou is beautiful and she knows it! She’ll destroy hearts AND cardboard boxes, and then watch you from a distance while you clean it up. If you’re napping, she will ALWAYS check to see if you’re faking it by giving you a playful tap on the nose. Always ready to play — especially with Teddy Bear — and she’s also extremely vocal and chirpy. She enjoys all the cat videos she’s seen so far, and hopes her new home will show her more! Would you like to make Emmy Lou and Teddy Bear too, a part of your family? Please complete our online application found at: avacats.org/adopt/adoption-form. Our adoption fees cover vetting and include spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccines (initial FVRCP and rabies), flea treatment, two dewormings and microchipping. Adoption fees are $275 for each kitten up to 12 months old. Please note that fees may apply for additional required vaccinations (at $75 per booster) due prior to adoption. Total adoption fees will be confirmed by the AVA Adoption Coordinator. All AVA kittens 12 months or younger must be adopted in pairs or go to a home with another young cat (3 years or younger). Kittens learn from each other how to behave, which helps them turn into well-adjusted adult cats. In general, paired cats have happier and healthier lives because they have a constant companion and playmate. Plus, it’s twice the fun for you, and half the work!
