My Story

Emily Lickinson was rescued from a feral colony when she was just a baby kitten in February. The poor little girl suffered serious frostbite on her ears, nose, paws and tail. The end of her tail was bald and leathery, we thought she might even lost portion of her tail, like other winter kittens we have rescued that required amputation. Luckily, she healed up with time and is doing great now! She was riddled with parasites (which have all been treated and cleared up) and sick with an Upper Respiratory virus. We took her to the vet many times for diagnostics and treatment, on top of our normal vetting which includes testing for Feline Leukemia, 3 sets of vaccines, spaying and microchip. Emily was terrified of humans at first, and she would hide her cute little face deep into a cat bed while accepting rubbing. She quickly learned that humans were useful, because we are the bearers of Squeeze up Treats! Emily absolutely LOVES the tube-style lickable treats, and will come running to me when I show her a tube. Emily has watched other kittens come and go, she never gets chosen for adoption because she is very shy with new people. Once she gets to know you, she will show her true adorable purr-sonality, where she plays like any frisky kitten. Emily loves to chase toys, and leaps in the air to play with feather wands. Laser light is one of her favourite games! She races around the house with Elf on the Shelf, her honorary "brother from another mother". They have been together for 5 months at the rescue, and would love to get adopted together. We don't mind separating them, as long as they each go to a home that has another cat to keep them company. Emily is very affectionate with other cats, in fact, she often curls up with one of the adult cats for a nap on the bed. Lately, she has spent a lot of time hanging out with a big male, Fluffy Felix, who chew on her ears and they wrestle. Emily is definitely NOT the type of kitty for a family with young children, as she would be too timid of their sounds and movements. She would do best in a home with people who have experience with cats, and who will be patient and shower her with TLC until she caves in and shows you what a true sweetheart she can be! We describe her as a "flirt", because she will come right up to you, but back away when you reach out to touch her. She will only let me pet her and rub her belly when she is in her "Comfort Spot", either a cat bed or when she is sleepy. Search for Healing Animal SCARS on Facebook to find our group and page, where you can find many posts and videos showing Emily over the past 5 months since she was rescued.
