My Story
All our cats are adopted as inside only cats. Alexander Commander and Contessa of Culpeper must be adopted together. We listed them separately so we could share more photos of each.
Do we even have to say anything about these two darlings? They are simply criminally adorable. But you may want to know a couple of things; they came with their black boy sibling, Frankie, from a TNR site at a trailer park. They were orphaned and only about 3 weeks old, if that, and first fostered by a neo-natal foster (retired vet tech). They all had fleas, URIs and were underweight. Once on solid food they went to another foster and have been VERY HEALTHY plump little babies. Born on April 7, they are now (7/7) about 12 weeks old. As if they couldn’t be any cuter; all 3 are bobtails (well, Frankie, had like a polo horse’s tail with a crook at the end). Contessa (Tessa) is the sweetest little angel – she loves to play with Alex, toys and anything that she trips over - but when she needs one of their many naps a day, she wants to cuddle, make biscuits and nurse on YOU. She is a super snuggler, has always been…even as she heads into tween years. Alexander Commander was Alexa until it was discovered the vet discovered she was an Alex! He could not be neutered because only one testicle dropped – so he has to wait until 6 mos to a year to see if they will both drop (of course, neutering could also be a search and seize surgery). While Tessa is a sweet angel, Alex is mos def the angel tinged with a wee spot of the devil. Very playful, brave, curious and alert! He loves to investigate, play, and boss his sister around (not that she allows that to happen). Alex always has that look on his face that he’s ready for action. He loves to crawl in his foster mom’s lap while she’s on the computer, purring, making biscuits and falling asleep. Since 3 weeks old they have not known any other caretaker except a human, both are very loving. They will only go to a home that has enough time and enough laps. Must be the center of attention and loved on a lot, certainly an integral part of a family. They take meds very easily and vaccinations…they are champs! Easy-going, fun-loving cuddlers…there is just no down-side with these two…whoever gets to adopt them will be famous for having them!
All our kitties are fully vetted; spayed/neutered, FeLV/FIV tested, utd on rabies (if age appropriate), distemper vax, dewormed, deflead and microchipped.
If you are interested in meeting these kittens please submit an application by clicking this link; https://www.culpeperhumane.org/adoptions/application/
Once submitted, the vet reference you provided will be contacted (if no vet, please provide 3 personal references, may be family and friends if they have a cat that you interact with), and our Director of Adoptions will schedule a phone interview with you. If approved, you will be contacted by our Foster Coordinator for a (virtual) home visit. If approved, the foster parent is notified to contact you to discuss the kitten(s) and arrange the logistics for a visit. If both parties are committed to moving forward with an adoption, the foster parent is empowered to do same day adoption. Our rescue group does not have a brick and mortar facility, all our animals are home fostered in our foster volunteer’s homes. You will be visiting a private residence. The application does not oblige you to adopt, nor does the visitation; the application gives us more information to help ensure an appropriate, suitable and good match.
Not first come, first served, but the best possible match made.
Our policy is that we always take our animals back should it prove to be a less than perfect match, or if you are unable or unwilling to care for the animal any longer. We just don't want the animal to go back into the system. It is also our policy NOT to adopt to families with intact dogs or cats (unless there is a medical reason for not doing so). This is an effort to educate and support our national spay/neuter efforts to reduce the unwanted pet population.
We DO adopt to DC residents, parts of Maryland and Virginia. Occasionally we will adopt far from our epi-center, but will request your local humane society to do a home visit for us and act as our safety net.
Thank you for considering an unwanted and abandoned kitty, and being part of the rescue efforts.
