My Story

Chester came to Dakin as a stray and has been biding his time in foster care, enjoying the better things in life! His foster says he's a goofy, quiet and scruffy. If you look into his eyes, they seem to say, "I'm a tired little guy." He's a cat who's lived a hard life and is learning to accept love from humans. He was scared at first, but after his foster sat with him for a few days and started petting him, he eventually began exploring and playing. He is social and is even affectionate with new people. Chester hasn't been around children but has met the resident dog. He's not exactly jubilant about him, but he's getting better about it. This kitty enjoys being petted but when he's done, he's DONE, and if you don't get the hint, you may be reprimanded. His belly and sides are "Do Not Touch" zones. Chester isn't a high energy kitty, but he likes to play with a wand toy and a ball of yarn, and while he hasn't learned that playing with a person doesn't involve claws, he's getting better about it. He probably wouldn't be a good fit for a home with small children. Chester would do well in a quiet home, where he's allowed to acclimate at a slower pace. This handsome boy is FIV+ but that doesn't stop him from being your next best friend. FIV is a cat-only virus and does not affect people or dogs. FIV+ cats most often live long, healthy, and relatively normal lives with no symptoms at all. FIV is not easily passed between cats. If you are looking to add an FIV+ cat to your family and you currently have cats that are not FIV+ please speak with your vet. This pet is part of our Lonely Hearts club.
