My Story

Boston is one very special cat – at least to me he is. He has been on quite the emotional journey since coming into the care of LAPS in September 2009 with his brother Jersey. Boston was quite the wild, wild boy “I will rip your face if you touch me” kind of kitten. We weren't sure what to do with this untouchable boy. We were pretty sure he would be happier being a barn cat. But life threw him a curve ball. He and his brother had the good fortune of going into a wonderful foster home that had previous success fostering a pair of feral kittens for us. It was quite the process (think thick, long leather working gloves). By the time it was time to neuter Boston and Jersey, Boston had begun to inteact with the family and enjoyed his time around them. When he was neutered, he came back to our shelter and into my desk drawer. Boston went back to being feral. He lived in my office with his brother and another kitten and all the time they were with Boston, Boston stayed away from us humans. Then Jersey got adopted just before New Years and then Tag was adopted after the New Year and Boston was alone with those scary humans. Well that was a Monday and I wasn't coming into work until Wednesday. Boston had a whole day to think about his life and what he was going to do. He must have had an ephipany while I was gone. So far the equation had been no cats = no comapnionship. Was this truly his only option. Wait a minute what if humans = companionship. Wow what a thought!!! On Wednesday, I met a new Boston. I opened the desk drawer, no hissing. I touched him, no pulling away. Wait a minute what was that? was that purr? Oh my lord, it was. The next thing I knew, Boston was rolling over and giving me his belly to rub and his paws were playfully curling around my wrist. Holy cow!!! is the same cat.

So Boston is still a shy cat who get scared pretty darn fast. But he quickly warms up to people now and is a purring machine. His favorite position is lying on his back while you rub his face and belly. Oh and he drools too just to show you how much he loves your touch. The bonus is that he is playful too.

Boston's perfect home would be a calm, quiet home with no young children. If there is a dog in the home, the dog needs to have a very mellow personality. If there is another cat in the home, it would be best if the cat had an outgoing personality. Boston craves human company now – he is not and independent thinker. He may hide for a few days before he adjusts to a new home so he needs someone to be patient. If you are willing to wait him out and show him how wonderful life can be with humans, then you will recieve a very loving “I need to be right next to you” kind of cat. He is sitting right next to my keyboard while I type his story – what a good boy you are Boston.
