My Story

IMPORTANT! Here to the Rescue will be closed from Dec 13th 2021-Jan 3rd 2022. In need of TNR assistance or looking to adopt? Please complete the forms at www.heretotherescue.weebly.com We will be in response as soon as we can after Jan 3rd. THANK YOU! This charming boy is Bartholomew, but Bart works just fine too! Bart is a bit of a favorite around our little rescue (I know, we aren't supposed to have favorites!) not only because he's a major sweetheart, but because it's been a real long journey for this poor boy! Bart was part of a large colony that we have helped with trap-neuter-return in the past and one day we got a call from a concerned citizen who stated that there was a cat on a door step who was covered in diarrhea, flies, and maggots - yikes. We quickly contacted the caregiver whose response was that they hadn't had time to shoot him since he's always sick - NOT OKAY! We quickly set to work and Bart was trapped within a few days, but he wasn't exactly a friendly boy. Bart was living outside and had little human interaction, so he was quite feral upon arrival. It took 3 long, hard months before Bart's digestive system was back on track. He had several different internal parasites so we tried all we could think of to help - different dewormers, foods, blood tests, etc. and finally he started feeling better! Now that he is feeling better (and has had much love forced upon him) he is a brand new guy! Bart is fun, active, and a very social kitty! Bart loves every cat that he meets, and he is even fine with dogs who don't get too much in his business, and does well with kids older than 12. Bart is very much an attention seeker and loves getting pets and cuddles. Bart will need to be on a high quality (but not high priced) food to support his digestive system, and will need regular deworming every few months. Because of his previous internal problems and being so sick, we also recommend he has canned food as a treat each day to keep his organs healthy! Bart has come a very long way since the deathly ill cat we trapped in June of 2020, and he is beyond ready for a nice home and a loving family of his own. We cannot wait to meet the family who will get to call our sweet boy their own! We are a small non-profit organization run on volunteers and donations. Due to this we ask that adoption fees are donation based, with a minimum of $50 to cover spay/neuter, Rabies & Distemper vaccines, dewormer, flea/tick/ear mite medication and any other medical treatment needed. Prior to attempting to visit us please complete an adoption application for approval. Our focus is on outdoor cats that do poorly outdoors so all cats must be adopted as indoor-only companions and are not to be declawed. If you are interested in a barn/garage cat to keep you company and help with pest control, we do have a barn cat program available as well. Thank you!
