My Story

Barney's Story: My roommate and I have been fostering kittens for the last 6 months through a local shelter. One night while coming home, we spotted a white cat limping down the street, there are many stray cats in our neighborhood but none that will ever come hear people. This cat walked right up to us and started rubbing his head in our hands. We brought him up to our apartment figuring we could take him to the shelter in the morning. Fortunately the shelter was kind enough to give us flea baths and ear cleaning supplies to help our, what we learned was a 5-6 year old, cat. Unfortunately the shelter was currently overpopulated and could not take in this cat, now named Barney. We took Barney to the vet to get his limpy leg checked out and get an overall exam. The Xray didn’t show much for what exactly happened to the leg but only that he most likely has some nerve damage and will always have a limp. In addition to the Xray we got the FIV/FELV test. While he is negative for leukemia, he is FIV positive. At this point the shelter we use cannot house him as there is nowhere to keep him separated from the FIV negative cats so for the last month he has been under our care. We are both frequently out of town and just can’t stand to leave this guy alone. We would love for someone to help us find him a home by himself or with another FIV cat. He is really friendly, talkative(when he wants to play), and cuddly. Barney is always calm around other cats(we believe he was living in the feral colony in the area) but doesn’t care for dogs as far as we can tell. He is still a little skittish at times when he hears strange noises but over all loves to explore and nap. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for us as we would love for him to have some friends and/or find a permanent home. I have attached some pictures of Barney both when he was first found, all dirty, and now all cleaned up.
